Power of Attorney Apostille and Attestation
MEA apostille and embassy attestation for powers of attorney signed in India, so that the person you appoint can act for you abroad in property, court, bank, company and family matters.

Power of attorney apostille: quick answer
Power of attorney apostille is the stamp the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) puts on your Indian power of attorney so that it is accepted in Hague Convention countries. On our route the power of attorney is notarised in New Delhi, verified by the SDM office and then apostilled by the MEA, which charges a government fee of ₹50 per document.
Going to the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait or another country outside the Hague Convention? Then you need Power of attorney attestation instead: the same notary and SDM steps, MEA attestation, and legalisation by that country’s embassy in New Delhi.
INFINITYGRO handles Poa apostille for clients across India by courier. Send a WhatsApp photo of your power of attorney and the destination country, and you get the route and a written quote before anything is sent.
Why a power of attorney needs an apostille or attestation
A power of attorney (POA) lets you appoint someone, your attorney or agent, to act for you when you cannot be present. Signed in India for use abroad, it might let a relative sell property in Dubai, a lawyer represent you in a court in Italy, or a manager operate a bank account or company overseas. A special POA covers one task; a general POA covers a wider range of acts.
Before a foreign court, land registry, bank or notary will act on it, the POA must be legalised in India. For Hague Convention countries such as Italy, Spain, the UK or Saudi Arabia that is an MEA apostille; for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and other non-Hague countries it is MEA attestation followed by embassy legalisation.

Tips before sending your power of attorney
- If the POA will be used in Italy, Spain or another non-English-speaking country, ask the lawyer there for the exact wording; bilingual POAs are common and save translation time.
- A special POA that names the exact property, case or account is accepted more easily than a broad general POA.
- Company POAs signed on behalf of a business usually need a board resolution as well, and go through the Chamber of Commerce; tell us if your POA is from a company.

FAQs: Power of attorney apostille and attestation
How do I get my power of attorney apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs?
The power of attorney goes to a New Delhi notary, then to the SDM office for verification, and then to the MEA for the apostille. INFINITYGRO manages the whole file by courier, so you only post the original and receive it back stamped.
What are the charges for Power of attorney apostille?
Two parts make up the cost: the MEA’s ₹50 government fee per document and our service charge, which for an apostille on a power of attorney is usually ₹1,000–₹1,500 per document. Courier both ways is separate. If you need embassy attestation instead, we quote that country’s charges in writing.
What is the difference between a special and a general power of attorney?
A special POA authorises one specific act, such as selling a named property or representing you in one case. A general POA gives broader authority. Both can be apostilled or attested; foreign authorities often prefer a special POA.
What documents are required for Power of attorney attestation?
Send the original power of attorney with a copy of your passport’s photo and address pages and the signed authorisation letter we provide. The country of use and the purpose decide whether we apostille or attest it.
What is the process for Power of attorney attestation for the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait?
Notary, SDM, MEA attestation and then the embassy: that is the four-step route for the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. The UAE also requires its own ministry stamp after you arrive.
Can a POA in Italian or Spanish be apostilled in India?
Yes. Many lawyers send a bilingual POA, for example an Italian procura alle liti. It is signed and notarised in India and then apostilled by the MEA; we can advise on translation if the format needs it.
How long does Power of attorney apostille take?
An apostille is quicker than embassy attestation, because there is no embassy queue. The exact time depends on the SDM and MEA workload; your written quote gives an expected date, and WhatsApp updates follow each stage.
Apostille or attestation: which one does my power of attorney need?
It depends on the country where you will use the power of attorney. Hague Convention countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Germany, Italy, the UK and Australia, accept the MEA apostille. Non-Hague countries, such as the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and China, need MEA attestation followed by embassy legalisation.
Does the person I appoint need to sign the POA?
Usually only the executant (the person giving the power) signs before the notary. Some foreign formats also ask the attorney to accept; follow the format given by the foreign lawyer or authority.
