Iraq Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: Export Papers, Degrees and Family Certificates

Iraq Embassy Attestation is the legalisation stamp Baghdad, Basra, Erbil and Najaf expect on any paper that started life in India. Rice shippers, drug exporters, oilfield crews, hospital staff and Iraqi alumni of Indian universities all need it before their documents count.

Quick answer: Iraq has not signed the Hague Apostille Convention, so an MEA apostille will be turned down. Indian papers are verified at home first (state HRD for academics, Home Department or SDM for civil records, a Chamber of Commerce for trade papers), then attested by MEA, and finally legalised by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, New Delhi. Arabic translation usually follows in Iraq.

What is Iraq Embassy Attestation and why is it compulsory?

Outside the 1961 Hague treaty, Iraqi offices rely on a ladder of endorsements: an Indian authority confirms the issuer, MEA confirms that authority, and an Iraqi consular officer confirms MEA. Only the last rung makes the paper usable before Iraqi customs, ministries, banks or employers.

In one line: Iraq Embassy Attestation is the Iraqi mission's signature and stamp over the MEA seal, making the Indian document fit for official use in Iraq.

Who needs Iraq-legalised documents?

Workers and their families

Indians work in Iraq as oilfield technicians around Basra, construction engineers, nurses and hotel staff in the Kurdistan Region. A work visa file leans on three proofs: the attested degree shows the qualification, the police clearance a clean record, experience letters the years claimed. A spouse or children joining need the attested marriage and birth certificates.

Iraqi graduates, pilgrims and spouses

Iraqis who graduate in Pune, Bengaluru or Chandigarh legalise degrees and transcripts before leaving India. Indians marrying Iraqi citizens legalise birth and single-status records.

Exporters

Iraq, a leading crude supplier to India, buys Indian basmati rice, medicines, buffalo meat, sugar and tea, and its customs want the shipping papers legalised.

  2. Chamber of Commerce, New DelhiThe Chamber issues or endorses the CoO and certifies the invoice and company papers.
  3. MEA attestationThe Ministry of External Affairs attests the Chamber's signature.
  4. Iraq Embassy legalisationThe embassy checks the file, takes its fee and stamps it.

Iraq attestation FAQs

Does Iraq accept an apostille from India?

No. Iraq is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so the MEA apostille has no standing there. Indian documents need MEA attestation followed by legalisation at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi.

What does Iraq Embassy Attestation cost for a certificate of origin?

Our charge is ₹2,500 plus 18% GST per document, covering notary, Chamber, MEA and courier within India. The Iraqi Embassy's own fee for a certificate of origin is USD 100, paid on top at actual cost.

What is the embassy fee for invoices and other commercial papers?

The Iraq Embassy charges USD 100 for a commercial invoice and USD 160 for other commercial documents such as COPP, GMP certificates, agreements or a company power of attorney. Our service fee of ₹2,500 plus GST applies to each.

Why was my certificate of origin rejected by the Iraq Embassy?

The usual cause is incomplete party details. The CoO and invoice must show the full address, phone number and email of the exporter, the consignee and the buyer if different. Reissue the CoO through the Chamber with those details.

How long does commercial document attestation for Iraq take?

About 7 to 10 working days from receipt of correct documents, covering notary, Chamber, MEA and the embassy. Embassy holidays or corrections to the CoO can add time, so plan shipments with a margin.

Is State HRD verification compulsory for degree attestation for Iraq?

Yes. Educational certificates must be verified by the education department of the issuing state before MEA will attest them for Iraq. Skipping this step means the embassy will not accept the degree.

Which documents does an Indian need for a work visa in Iraq?

Employers commonly ask for the legalised degree or diploma, a police clearance certificate, experience letters and a passport copy. Medical reports may also be needed. Your sponsor's list is final, so share it with us before we start.

Do I need marriage certificate attestation for Iraq to take my wife along?

In most cases, yes. The legalised marriage certificate proves the relationship for the spouse's residence. It passes through a notary, the Home Department or SDM, MEA and the Iraqi Embassy, and is then translated into Arabic.

Is an Arabic translation required?

Usually. Iraqi ministries and courts work in Arabic and expect a certified translation of the legalised document. Arrange it after the embassy stamp so that all seals are translated too.

I studied in India as an Iraqi student. How do I legalise my degree?

Have your degree and transcripts verified by the education department of the state where your university is, attested by MEA and legalised by the Iraqi Embassy in New Delhi. Finish this before leaving India.
