Algeria Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: From Embassy Legalisation to MEA Apostille

For years, Indian papers headed to Algiers, Oran or Hassi Messaoud queued twice in New Delhi: once at MEA and again at the Algerian Embassy. Algeria's accession to the Apostille Convention has removed the second queue.

What to know now: Since 9 July 2026 the Apostille Convention applies between India and Algeria. Indian public documents for Algeria therefore need an MEA apostille after state, university or Chamber verification, and the Algerian Embassy legalisation step is no longer required. Papers legalised under the old embassy system before that date remain valid.

In practice the India-side verification is identical, but you save the embassy fee and the extra days spent at the mission. If an older checklist from your Algerian employer still says "légalisé par l'Ambassade d'Algérie", show them the apostille rule; we can also supply a short explanatory note.

Who needs Algeria apostille services

Indian professionals have long worked in Algeria's hydrocarbon fields, power plants, housing programmes and railway projects, frequently on contracts with Indian EPC firms or Algerian state companies. Each assignment brings its own document list.

Engineers and technicians

An Algerian work authorisation relies on proof of qualification, so the degree or diploma is apostilled. A Passport Seva PCC confirms the absence of a criminal record, and experience certificates support senior grades.

Families accompanying staff

To bring a spouse the marriage certificate is apostilled; children need apostilled birth certificates. These support the dependant's visa and later the residence card.

Exporters and contractors

Agency agreements, tender documents, powers of attorney and incorporation papers for Algerian partners or ministries.

Personal and legal matters

Marriages with Algerian nationals, inheritance files and court cases often need apostilled civil status records and affidavits.

Commercial document attestation for Algeria

India sells Algeria rice, medicines, vehicles and spare parts, yarn and engineering goods, and Indian contractors bid for Algerian infrastructure tenders. Since July 2026 the legalisation of company documents follows the apostille path too.

  • Power of attorney naming an Algerian representative or lawyer
  • Certificate of incorporation, MOA and AOA
  • Board resolution authorising a tender bid or branch
  • Distribution, agency or supply agreement
  • Pre-qualification letters and financial statements
  • Certificate of Origin, commercial invoice and packing list
  • COPP, GMP and Free Sale Certificate for medicine registration
  • GST certificate and Importer Exporter Code
  1. Company signatureAn authorised signatory signs on letterhead; we check that the name matches the board resolution.
  2. Chamber of CommerceA recognised Indian Chamber attests the document after checking the company's membership.
  3. MEA apostilleThe Ministry of External Affairs apostilles it. No Algerian Embassy visit follows for documents covered by the Convention.

Certain customs paperwork may still follow separate trade rules. If your Algerian buyer quotes a customs instruction, send it to us before shipping and we will confirm what applies.

Degree certificate attestation for Algeria

Algerian employers and the ministries that approve foreign hires typically want the highest qualification apostilled. Depending on the role, that may be:

  • B.Tech, B.E. or M.Tech degree for petroleum, electrical and civil engineers
  • Diploma in engineering for site supervisors
  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD) and nursing qualifications for healthcare contracts
  • Transcripts or marksheets when an equivalence review is requested
  • Provisional certificate if the original degree has not yet been issued
  • 10th and 12th certificates for technicians

The degree is notarised, then sent to the education department of the issuing state (some states first refer it to the university for confirmation), and finally apostilled by MEA. Because each state runs its own desk, timelines vary between roughly one and three weeks.

Birth, marriage, PCC and other civil papers

Marriage certificate attestation for Algeria and birth certificate attestation for Algeria pass through a notary, then the SDM (Delhi) or the Home Department of the state that issued them, and end at MEA. The same chain covers single status affidavits, divorce decrees, death certificates, medical certificates and affidavits.

PCC attestation for Algeria is quicker: a certificate from Passport Seva is apostilled directly by MEA without a state step, usually within two to three working days. A police-station certificate needs state authentication first.

Arabic and French translation after the apostille

Arabic is Algeria's official language and French is widely used in administration and business. Most Algerian offices want a translation by a sworn translator in Algeria; ask for the apostille certificate itself to be translated along with the document. Translating before the apostille wastes money, as the translation would not cover the sticker.

Checklist and pitfalls

  • Send originals, a passport copy and the Algerian employer's request letter
  • Do not laminate certificates; state offices will not stamp them
  • Make sure the father's name and spelling match across passport, birth and marriage records
  • Keep copies of anything legalised by the Algerian Embassy before July 2026; it remains usable

Algeria apostille FAQs

Is the Algerian Embassy still involved in attestation?

For public documents covered by the Apostille Convention, no. From 9 July 2026 the MEA apostille replaces the embassy legalisation that Algeria previously required for Indian papers, so the embassy stage is skipped.

Are documents legalised by the Algerian Embassy before July 2026 still valid?

Yes. Documents that completed the older MEA and embassy legalisation remain legalised. The apostille rule applies to new documents being processed, so there is no need to redo papers already stamped.

How much does Algeria embassy attestation cost now?

A Passport Seva PCC costs ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 all-inclusive, birth certificates start at ₹1,500 and marriage certificates are ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. Degrees and company documents are quoted individually after we see a scan.

My Algerian employer still asks for an embassy stamp. What should I do?

Many checklists were written before the change. Share the apostille rule with your employer; if they still insist in writing, contact us before processing so that we can advise on the right approach.

Which language do Algerian authorities require?

Arabic is the official language and French is common in administration and business. A sworn translator in Algeria normally translates the apostilled document, including the apostille certificate itself.

How long does degree certificate attestation for Algeria take?

It depends on the state that issued the degree. Including notary, state or university verification and the MEA apostille, most degrees are ready in roughly one to three weeks.

Can export invoices for Algeria be apostilled?

Commercial documents are attested by a recognised Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by MEA. Some customs paperwork may follow separate trade rules, so we check your buyer's instructions before starting.

Is a marriage certificate needed for a spouse's residence in Algeria?

Generally yes. A family member joining an Indian employee usually needs an apostilled marriage certificate, and children need apostilled birth certificates, to support the dependant's visa and residence card.

Can a power of attorney for an Algerian lawyer be apostilled in India?

Yes. The POA is signed before a notary, attested by the state Home Department or SDM, and apostilled by MEA. A company POA instead goes through a Chamber of Commerce before MEA.

Do I need to come to Delhi for Algeria apostille?

No. You can courier documents to our New Ashok Nagar office or request pickup. We complete every step and send the apostilled papers back to you anywhere in India.
