Congo Embassy Attestation in India

Congo embassy attestation for Indian degrees, birth and marriage certificates and export papers going to the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). Congo is not an apostille country, so we complete notary, SDM and MEA attestation and then have the Congolese embassy in New Delhi legalise the document. Papers for DR Congo follow a separate embassy route.

Quick answer

Which Congo, and what does attestation involve?

Congo embassy attestation on this page means legalising an Indian document for the Republic of the Congo, the country whose capital is Brazzaville. The MEA attests the document and the Republic of the Congo’s embassy in New Delhi then legalises it. Congo has not joined the Apostille Convention, so the apostille sticker alone is not enough.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (capital Kinshasa) is a different country with its own embassy in New Delhi, and a stamp from one Congolese embassy is not valid for the other. If your document is for Kinshasa, Lubumbashi or Goma, tell us and we will use the DR Congo embassy instead. Brazzaville requests often come from Indians working in supermarkets, electronics shops, travel agencies and trading firms.

Part 1 · Apostille or attestation

Congo needs embassy attestation, not an apostille

Neither the Republic of the Congo nor the Democratic Republic of the Congo appears in the HCCH Apostille Convention status table (checked October 2026). An MEA apostille is therefore not accepted by either. Documents need MEA attestation and then legalisation by the embassy of the correct Congo.

Before you send documents for Congo

Send us

  • Original documents, not laminated
  • A copy of your passport
  • A note saying whether the document is for the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) or DR Congo (Kinshasa)
  • Your return address and phone number

Watch out for

  • Check the city on your job offer or buyer’s letter: Brazzaville or Pointe-Noire means the Republic of the Congo, Kinshasa means DR Congo
  • A legalisation stamp from one Congo’s embassy will not be accepted by the other
  • French is used in both countries, so ask early whether a translation is needed
  • Exporters: put the consignee’s full address in Congo on the invoice before it goes to the chamber
FAQs

FAQs: Congo embassy attestation

Does Congo accept the MEA apostille?

No. Neither the Republic of the Congo nor DR Congo is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. Documents for either country are attested by the MEA and then legalised by the relevant Congolese embassy in New Delhi.

What is the difference between Congo and DR Congo for attestation?

They are two separate countries. The Republic of the Congo has its capital in Brazzaville; the Democratic Republic of the Congo has its capital in Kinshasa. Each has its own embassy in New Delhi and legalises only documents meant for its own country, so tell us which one you need.

What are the Congo embassy attestation charges?

For personal and educational documents we charge Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document for the MEA stage, all-inclusive. The embassy’s legalisation fee is additional and confirmed in your written quote. Commercial documents also involve a Chamber of Commerce fee.

How long does it take?

Generally 5 to 8 working days after we receive your documents in Delhi, whether the file goes to the Republic of the Congo embassy or the DR Congo embassy. Courier days are extra, and the date is confirmed in writing.

My employer is in Pointe-Noire. Which embassy will stamp my degree?

Pointe-Noire is in the Republic of the Congo, so the Embassy of the Republic of the Congo in New Delhi legalises your MEA-attested degree. We take care of both the MEA and the embassy submissions for you.

Can commercial invoices for Congo be legalised?

Yes. A recognised Chamber of Commerce attests the invoice or certificate of origin, the MEA attests the chamber’s signature, and the Congolese embassy then adds its legalisation. Tell us whether the consignee is in Brazzaville or Kinshasa.

Do I need my documents in French?

French is the official language of both Congos, and authorities there may ask for a translation. INFINITYGRO arranges French translations by page, and we advise you on whether the translation should be done before or after legalisation.

Can I send documents from another city?

Yes. Courier the originals to our office at New Ashok Nagar, Delhi, or drop them off yourself. There is no home pickup service. We return completed documents by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
