Quick answer

What does Chad embassy attestation mean?

Chad embassy attestation is the legalisation an Indian document needs before offices in N’Djamena accept it. Since Chad has not joined the Hague Apostille Convention, the paper is attested by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and then legalised by the Embassy of Chad, which opened in New Delhi in 2019.

About 250 Indians and 45 Indian companies are present in Chad, according to the MEA, mainly in oil projects, international organisations and trade. Chadian students form the other large group: ICCR scholarship slots for Chad are being raised to 35 for 2026-27, and graduates often need their Indian degrees legalised. French and Arabic are both official languages.

Part 1 · Apostille or attestation

Chad needs embassy attestation, not an apostille

Chad is not on the HCCH Apostille Convention status table that we checked in October 2026. An apostille issued by the MEA will therefore not satisfy authorities in Chad. The Indian document needs MEA attestation followed by legalisation at the Embassy of Chad.

FAQs

FAQs: Chad embassy attestation

Is the apostille accepted in Chad?

No. Chad is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostilled document is not the accepted format. Indian documents for Chad receive MEA attestation and are then legalised by the Embassy of Chad in New Delhi.

Does Chad have an embassy in New Delhi?

Yes. Chad opened a resident embassy in New Delhi in 2019, and it legalises MEA-attested Indian documents. Our staff submit and collect your file there, so you do not need to travel to Delhi yourself.

What are Chad embassy attestation fees?

The MEA stage is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per personal or educational document, including notary, SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. The Embassy of Chad’s legalisation fee is extra and appears in your written quote. Courier both ways is charged separately.

How quickly can it be done?

Most files are completed in about 5 to 8 working days from the day they reach our Delhi office. Courier time is in addition. If you have a flight or visa deadline, share it with us and we will tell you whether it is realistic.

I am a Chadian student finishing my degree in India. What should I do?

Collect the final degree and transcripts from your university, then send them with a passport copy. We complete the notary, SDM, MEA and Embassy of Chad steps and courier the documents back to you anywhere in India before you leave.

Can oil-company experience letters be attested for Chad?

Yes, provided the letter is on company letterhead, signed and stamped. It goes through notary and SDM, then MEA attestation, and finally the Embassy of Chad. Some employers also want a police clearance certificate, so check their list first.

Which language should my translation be in?

Chad uses both French and Arabic officially, and the office receiving your document will say which one it needs. INFINITYGRO arranges translations into either language and quotes them by page.

Can I deliver documents personally?

Yes. You can visit our New Ashok Nagar office in Delhi with the originals or send them by courier. We do not provide home pickup. The completed set is returned by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
