Quick answer

PAN card apostille: quick answer

PAN card apostille means getting your PAN card copy certified by the Ministry of External Affairs with an apostille sticker, so that Hague Convention countries accept it without any embassy stamp. The steps are Notary, SDM New Delhi and the MEA apostille; the MEA’s own fee is ₹50 per document.

Countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait are not in the Hague Convention, so for them you need PAN card attestation: MEA attestation after the notary and SDM steps, followed by embassy legalisation.

INFINITYGRO handles PAN card copy apostille for clients across India by courier. Send a WhatsApp photo of your PAN card copy and the destination country, and you get the route and a written quote before anything is sent.

Part 1 · Why you need it

Why a PAN card copy needs an apostille or attestation

Foreign banks, company registrars and investment platforms sometimes ask Indian directors, shareholders and investors for a legalised copy of their PAN card as part of their identity and tax checks. Business owners setting up companies abroad and people opening accounts overseas are the most common clients.

Because the PAN card itself is a plastic card, the apostille or attestation is placed on a notarised copy. For Hague countries the MEA apostille is used; for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and other non-Hague countries the copy is attested by the MEA and legalised by the embassy.

Non-Hague countries

Other official routes: personal documents can also be authenticated by the Home Department or General Administration Department of the issuing State before the MEA stage. We use the Notary and SDM route in New Delhi, which works for clients from every State.
Part 3 · Documents

Part 5 · Before you send

Tips before sending your PAN card copy

  • The PAN copy and your passport should show the same name and date of birth.
  • If the receiving authority asks for an e-PAN, tell us; we advise on the accepted format.

Part 7 · FAQs

FAQs: PAN card apostille and attestation

How do I get my PAN card copy apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs?

First the original PAN card copy is attested by a notary in New Delhi. The SDM office in New Delhi then verifies the notary, and the MEA fixes the apostille sticker on the back. You can courier the original to us; we complete all three steps and courier it back.

What are the charges for PAN card apostille?

The MEA charges a government fee of ₹50 per document for an apostille. Our service charge for PAN card apostille is usually ₹1,000–₹1,500 per document, and courier is extra. Embassy attestation for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and other countries costs more and is quoted per country. You always get a written quote first.

Is the apostille put on the PAN card itself?

No. The apostille is fixed on a notarised copy of the PAN card, which is then verified and apostilled.

What documents are required for PAN card attestation?

Only a few things: the original PAN card copy, a passport copy showing the photo and address pages, and our authorisation letter signed by you. Let us know the country and the purpose so we choose the right route.

What is the process for PAN card attestation for the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait?

Notary, SDM, MEA attestation and then the embassy: that is the four-step route for the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. The UAE also requires its own ministry stamp after you arrive.

Do I need a PAN card apostille to open a company in Dubai?

Dubai and the rest of the UAE are non-Hague, so if the registrar asks for it, the PAN copy needs MEA attestation and UAE embassy legalisation.

How long does PAN card apostille take?

An apostille is quicker than embassy attestation, because there is no embassy queue. The exact time depends on the SDM and MEA workload; your written quote gives an expected date, and WhatsApp updates follow each stage.

Apostille or attestation: which one does my PAN card copy need?

Look at the destination. If it is a Hague Convention member (for example Saudi Arabia, Oman, Italy, Germany, Japan or Australia), the apostille is enough. If it is the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait or China, the PAN card copy needs attestation and the embassy stamp.

Can the PAN card and passport copy be done together?

Yes. Each is a separate document with its own stamp; one courier covers both.
