Reference Letter Apostille and Attestation
Apostille and embassy attestation for reference letters and recommendation letters from employers, professors and professionals in India.

Reference letter apostille: quick answer
Reference letter apostille means getting your reference letter certified by the Ministry of External Affairs with an apostille sticker, so that Hague Convention countries accept it without any embassy stamp. The steps are Notary, SDM New Delhi and the MEA apostille; the MEA’s own fee is ₹50 per document.
Countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait are not in the Hague Convention, so for them you need Reference letter attestation: MEA attestation after the notary and SDM steps, followed by embassy legalisation.
We arrange Reference letter apostille in India from start to finish by courier, for clients in every State. Share a photo of the reference letter on WhatsApp with the country name, and we confirm the route and price in writing.
Why a reference letter needs an apostille or attestation
Reference letters describe your work, skills or character in someone else’s words. Some immigration programmes, licensing bodies and employers abroad ask for these letters to be legalised so they can be sure the signatory and the organisation are real.
The letter is notarised and verified in New Delhi and then apostilled by the MEA for Hague countries. For the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and other non-Hague countries it is attested by the MEA and legalised by the embassy.

FAQs: Reference letter apostille and attestation
How do I get my reference letter apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs?
The reference letter goes to a New Delhi notary, then to the SDM office for verification, and then to the MEA for the apostille. INFINITYGRO manages the whole file by courier, so you only post the original and receive it back stamped.
What are the charges for Reference letter apostille?
Expect ₹1,000–₹1,500 per document as our service charge for an apostille, in addition to the ₹50 the MEA collects per document. Courier is billed separately. Attestation for the Gulf costs more because each embassy sets its own fee; we confirm it in a written quote.
Can a recommendation letter from a professor be apostilled?
Yes, if it is on the institution’s letterhead and signed. It is notarised, verified and apostilled like other personal documents.
What documents are required for Reference letter attestation?
For Reference letter attestation we need the original reference letter, your passport copy (front and back pages) and a signed authorisation letter. Please also say where and why you will use it.
What is the process for Reference letter attestation for the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait?
The UAE, Qatar and Kuwait do not accept the apostille, so the reference letter is attested in four stages: a New Delhi notary, the SDM, the MEA and finally the embassy of the country concerned. In the UAE, the foreign ministry adds one more stamp locally.
Is a reference letter the same as an experience certificate?
Not quite. An experience certificate formally confirms employment; a reference letter describes your work or character. Some authorities ask for both.
How long does Reference letter apostille take?
An apostille is quicker than embassy attestation, because there is no embassy queue. The exact time depends on the SDM and MEA workload; your written quote gives an expected date, and WhatsApp updates follow each stage.
Apostille or attestation: which one does my reference letter need?
The country decides. Apostille works for Hague members such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UK, France and Australia; attestation with embassy legalisation is needed for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, China and other non-members.
Does the referee need to visit Delhi?
No. Only the signed original letter is needed; we handle the legalisation.
