PCC Attestation in Jammu and Kashmir: Step by Step from Jammu or Srinagar

PCC attestation in Jammu and Kashmir is MEA attestation in Delhi followed by legalisation at the embassy of a country outside the Apostille Convention, such as the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait. For the UAE the PCC ends at the online UAE Embassy stage, with no MOFA stamp. If your destination is a Hague country, what you actually need is the MEA apostille, even if the checklist says attestation.

Two passport offices, two kinds of PCC
Passport Seva PCC
Issued through the Regional Passport Office in Jammu or in Srinagar, depending on your district. It is signed by a passport officer and goes to the MEA directly.
Police station PCC
Issued by a J&K Police station or district SSP office. A notary and the SDM in Delhi authenticate it before the MEA stage.

Name spellings and other details to check
Embassies compare the PCC with your passport. Small differences that nobody noticed at the police station can stop the file abroad.
- Short forms such as Mohd. or Md. must match the passport exactly
- Surname and father’s name in the same order as the passport
- Date of birth and passport number, where the PCC shows them, without errors
- Original signature and seal of the issuing officer
- A recent issue date; Gulf visa offices usually want a fresh PCC

Is PCC attestation the same as PCC apostille?
No, though people mix them up. Attestation is MEA attestation plus embassy legalisation, for countries outside the Apostille Convention such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. The apostille is a single MEA sticker for Hague countries. Your destination decides which one you need.
Can I get PCC attestation done in Srinagar or Jammu?
The MEA and the embassies work from Delhi, so the attestation stages happen there. You do not need to travel: courier the original PCC with a passport copy to our New Ashok Nagar office and we return it by courier.
How much does PCC attestation in Jammu and Kashmir cost?
For the MEA stage, Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 all-inclusive for a Passport Seva PCC, or Rs 1,500 fixed for a J&K police station PCC including notary and SDM. The embassy fee is extra and stated in your written quote, as is courier.
Does my PCC for the UAE need UAE MOFA attestation?
No. A PCC for the UAE needs MEA attestation and online UAE Embassy legalisation only. The MOFA step still applies to degrees, birth and marriage certificates, but not to a police clearance certificate, so the PCC route is one stage shorter.
Which passport office issues my PCC?
Jammu and Kashmir has two Regional Passport Offices, in Jammu and in Srinagar, and your district decides which one handles your Passport Seva application. Either way, the PCC is signed by a passport officer and goes straight to the MEA.
Will you apply for my PCC with J&K Police?

My name on the PCC is written as Mohd. but the passport says Mohammad. Is that a problem?
It can be. Embassies and employers often reject a PCC whose name does not match the passport exactly. Ask the issuing office to correct it before attestation; we cannot change anything written on the PCC.
I am already working in Qatar. Can my family send the PCC?
Yes. A relative can courier the original PCC with your passport copy, or drop it at our Delhi office. After MEA attestation and Qatar Embassy legalisation, we return it to them or courier it to you in Qatar.
