Birth Certificate Apostille for Vietnam: The 2026 Process for Indian Families
Moving to Vietnam with your family, enrolling a child in school there or marrying in Vietnam? Indian birth certificates for Vietnam no longer go to the Vietnam Embassy. Since 11 September 2026 the MEA apostille is the final stamp. This post covers the checks to make on the certificate, the Delhi process, translation and the cost.

Birth certificate for Vietnam: quick answer
Birth certificate apostille for Vietnam has replaced the old two-stamp process of MEA attestation followed by Vietnam Embassy legalisation. The Apostille Convention has applied between India and Vietnam since 11 September 2026, and the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi no longer legalises Indian public documents covered by it. An Indian birth certificate carrying the MEA apostille is used in Vietnam without further certification.
In Delhi the certificate is first notarised and attested by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), then apostilled by the MEA. INFINITYGRO handles the three stages for Rs 1,000–1,500 per certificate, all-inclusive, usually within 2–3 working days of receiving it. The embassy’s notice also asks for a Vietnamese translation of documents not in Vietnamese, which we can provide.
When a birth certificate is needed in Vietnam
Offices in Vietnam ask for a birth certificate to establish a child’s identity and parentage, or an adult’s date and place of birth. Typical situations for Indian families:
Family joining a worker
A spouse and children moving to join an Indian employee in Vietnam usually have to show the family relationship on paper.
School admission
Schools in Vietnam often ask for the child’s birth certificate when the child is enrolled.
Marriage in Vietnam
An Indian marrying in Vietnam may be asked for a birth certificate along with proof of single status.
The receiving office sets its own list. Ask it which documents it needs before you send anything to us.

Apostilling a whole family’s papers together
When a family moves together, the children’s birth certificates usually travel with a marriage certificate and the working parent’s degree and experience letter. Sending them in one courier keeps the set together and saves courier cost; each is still priced per document.
For the working parent’s file, see our Vietnam work permit papers guide.
Vietnamese translation of the birth certificate
The Vietnam Embassy’s notice says a document that is not in Vietnamese must be translated into Vietnamese, with the translation notarised or certified under Vietnamese law. A bilingual Hindi and English certificate still needs it.
INFINITYGRO translates birth certificates into Vietnamese after the apostille, including the apostille text. If the school or office in Vietnam prefers its own certified translator, you only need the apostilled original from us. See our translation services.

FAQs: Birth Certificate Apostille for Vietnam: The 2026 Process for Indian Families
Do I still need Vietnam Embassy attestation on a birth certificate?
No. From 11 September 2026 the Vietnam Embassy in New Delhi stopped legalising Indian public documents covered by the Apostille Convention. A birth certificate with an MEA apostille, obtained after notary and SDM attestation, is used in Vietnam without an embassy stamp.
How much does birth certificate apostille for Vietnam cost?
Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per certificate, all-inclusive. That covers the notary, the SDM attestation, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier both ways is extra, and a Vietnamese translation is quoted by page if you need one.
How long does it take?
Usually 2 to 3 working days in Delhi once the certificate reaches us. Add courier time from your city and back. If several family members’ certificates are sent together, they are processed together in the same period.
Can a digitally signed birth certificate be apostilled?
Many states now issue birth certificates online with a digital signature or QR code. Send us the PDF or the print you hold before couriering anything. We check whether it can go through the notary, SDM and MEA as it is, or whether a registrar-signed copy is needed.
My child was born outside India. Can you apostille that certificate?
No. The MEA apostilles documents issued in India. A birth certificate issued in another country is apostilled or legalised by that country’s own authorities. Ask the competent authority of the country that issued it.
Is a certificate legalised before September 2026 still valid?
Yes. The embassy’s notice says documents legalised through consular channels before 11 September 2026 remain valid in Vietnam. A school or office may still ask for a recently issued copy for its own reasons, so check with them.
The certificate shows no name for the child. Can it be apostilled?
It can be apostilled as it is, but an office in Vietnam may not accept a certificate without the child’s name. The name is added by the registrar that issued the certificate. INFINITYGRO cannot add or correct entries.
Do I need to come to Delhi?
No. Courier the original to our New Ashok Nagar office, or drop it off if you live in Delhi. We do not offer home pickup. We send the apostilled certificate back by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
