Birth certificate apostille for Ecuador is the MEA apostille on an Indian birth certificate so that Ecuadorian offices accept it as a genuine public document. The Apostille Convention has been in force for Ecuador since 2 April 2005 and for India since 14 July 2005, with no objection between them, so the apostille replaces legalisation by the Ecuador Embassy.

The Convention exists to remove embassy legalisation between member countries. Ecuador applies it to Indian public documents, so no Ecuador Embassy stage is needed once the MEA apostille is on the certificate.

Does Ecuador accept an apostilled Indian birth certificate?
Yes. India and Ecuador are both parties to the Apostille Convention, and the HCCH status table shows no objection between them. An Indian birth certificate with the MEA apostille therefore needs no Ecuador Embassy legalisation in New Delhi.
Do I need the Ecuador Embassy stamp at all?
No, not on top of an apostille. Embassy legalisation is the older route used for countries outside the Convention. If an office in Ecuador still asks for it, request the instruction in writing and share it with us before paying for anything extra.

Not for our route. The SDM in Delhi authenticates the notarised copy, which the MEA accepts before it issues the apostille. If an office specifically asks for state home department attestation, that is done by your state, not by us.
How long does it take?
Usually 2 to 3 working days in Delhi once the certificate reaches us. Add courier time from your city to Delhi and back, and a few extra days if you also order a Spanish translation from us.
Is an online birth certificate accepted?
Often yes, if it shows the registrar’s signature, digital or printed, and a registration number that can be verified. Send a photo first and we tell you whether the notary and SDM are likely to accept it.
Does the certificate need Spanish translation?
For residence procedures Ecuador’s foreign ministry asks for foreign documents to be translated into Spanish and recommends doing it before a notary in Ecuador. Ask the office handling your case which option it accepts.
