apostille
An apostille for Brazil is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document after verification by the competent Indian authority – the state education department for degrees, the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, a chamber of commerce for company papers. Since August 2016 Brazilian immigration, cartórios, universities and the commercial registry accept it without Brazilian Embassy legalisation. A sworn Portuguese translation is almost always needed.
Brazil embassy attestation is not needed – the apostille for Brazil is
Until 2016, Indian documents for Brazil went through MEA attestation and Brazilian consular legalisation. Brazil’s accession to the Apostille Convention ended that: today the apostille for Brazil is the only authentication step, and the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi does not legalise Indian public documents.
What has not changed is the translation. In Brazil, foreign documents are generally translated by a tradutor público juramentado – a sworn public translator registered with a Brazilian commercial board – after the apostille. Build that into your timeline, especially for degree revalidation.
