apostille
For an apostille for Spain, an Indian document is first verified by the issuing authority in India (education department, home department or SDM, or chamber of commerce) and then apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Spain accepts the MEA apostille directly β the Spanish Embassy does not attest Indian documents. Most Spanish offices then want a Spanish translation by a sworn translator (traductor jurado).
Spain embassy attestation is not needed β apostille for Spain is
Many people search for βSpain embassy attestationβ after getting a Spanish university offer or job letter. Spain joined the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention in 1978, and the Convention has applied between India and Spain since 12 February 2008, so the old embassy legalisation chain does not apply.
The last stamp on your Indian document is the MEA apostille with its QR code, which Spanish universities, consulates and the Registro Civil can verify online.
The only Spain-specific step that remains is the translation: for official use in Spain, documents are normally translated into Spanish by a traductor jurado appointed by Spainβs Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
