Translate before or after the apostille? Β· One file, one courier

Apostille Translation

Many countries want two things from an Indian document: the MEA apostille and a translation into their language. The order matters – some want the apostille translated too, others want the translation itself apostilled. INFINITYGRO plans the sequence for your destination and delivers the apostille and translation together, so nothing has to be redone.

Quick answer

Apostille translation is the translation of an apostilled Indian document – usually including the text of the MEA apostille sticker itself – into the language of the destination country. INFINITYGRO handles both stages: we get the original apostilled by MEA and translate the document and apostille, or translate first and apostille the notarised translation, depending on what the receiving office requires.

Translate before or after the apostille?

Apostille first, then translate Most common

The original gets the MEA apostille in India; then the document and the apostille certificate are translated together. Typical for Spain, Italy, Portugal and Latin America, where the translation is often made or checked in the destination country.

  • Apostille sticker text translated with the document
  • Translation by us or a sworn translator abroad, as required
  • Avoids a second round of legalisation

Translate first, then apostille When asked

The translation is made in India, the translator’s declaration is notarised, and the notarised translation is apostilled by MEA – sometimes alongside the apostilled original.

  • Used when an office wants a legalised translation from India
  • Translation and original travel as one set
  • We confirm acceptance before starting

Plan it right

Apostille translation mistakes that cost time

  • Translating too early. If the apostille is added later, the translation may lack the apostille text and need redoing.
  • Ignoring the sworn-translator rule. Spain, France, Germany and others sometimes accept only local sworn translators.
  • Separating documents. Keep the apostilled original and its translation together, as officers compare them.
  • Name inconsistencies. The apostille, document and translation must spell names identically.
  • Wrong route. UAE, Qatar and Kuwait need attestation, not apostille – we check first.

Combining the apostille and translation in one file is the main reason clients choose our desk: there is one quote, one courier and one set of consistent names. For the legalisation of translated documents specifically, see translated certificate apostille.

Our apostille translation work most often involves Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Japanese and Korean – see the language pages for country-specific rules.

Whether you need apostille translation for a single birth certificate or a full company file, the same team plans the order, translates and legalises.

Where it is used

Where apostille translation is needed

Common destinations:

Country / officeWhat they usually ask for
Spain, Portugal, ItalyApostille on the original; translation often by a sworn translator in that country.
Germany, FranceApostille; translation requirements vary by office.
Mexico, Colombia, Chile, PeruApostille plus Spanish translation.
Japan, KoreaApostille plus Japanese or Korean translation.
ChinaNot apostille – MEA attestation and Chinese embassy legalisation, then Chinese translation.
UAE, Qatar, KuwaitNot apostille – MEA and embassy attestation, then Arabic translation if required.
Certification

Which certification level goes with apostille translation?

LevelWhat you receive
PlainText only – useful for reading or a first check.
CertifiedDeclaration of accuracy, translator signature and company seal on every set.
NotarisedSame as certified, plus notary attestation of the declaration.
With apostilleApostille or embassy attestation applied to the translation itself.

If the translation itself must be apostilled, it is first certified and the translator’s declaration notarised; MEA then apostilles the notarised translation. If only the original needs the apostille, a certified translation of the document and apostille is usually enough.

Apostille translation – FAQs

Should I translate before or after the apostille?

Can a translation be apostilled?

Yes – the translator’s declaration is notarised and MEA apostilles the notarised translation.

Do UAE documents get an apostille?

No. The UAE, Qatar and Kuwait need MEA and embassy attestation instead.

Will Spain accept your translation?

Many Spanish offices want a traductor jurado; we tell you before you pay.
