Agency Agreement Attestation for Azerbaijan

Agency agreement attestation for Azerbaijan, for Indian companies appointing an agent or distributor in Baku or elsewhere in Azerbaijan. Both countries are in the Apostille Convention with no objection between them, so the agreement needs a notary, Chamber of Commerce attestation and the MEA apostille. We also translate into Azerbaijani.

Quick answer

Agency agreement attestation for Azerbaijan: quick answer

Agency agreement attestation for Azerbaijan is done with an MEA apostille. The Apostille Convention entered into force for Azerbaijan on 2 March 2005 and for India on 14 July 2005, and the HCCH records show no objection between the two. An agency or distribution agreement signed in India is therefore notarised, attested by a Chamber of Commerce and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs, with no Azerbaijan Embassy stage.

Azerbaijani is the state language, so your partner may want a translation for local use. INFINITYGRO handles the three Indian stages and translates into Azerbaijani, quoted by page. The total for the apostille is quoted in writing after we see the agreement.

Part 1 · Apostille status

Why some sources disagree about Azerbaijan

When Azerbaijan joined the Convention, several European states objected to its accession: Belgium, Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands. Hungary withdrew in 2005, the Netherlands in 2010 and Germany only in March 2026, according to the HCCH depositary records. Those objections affected documents between Azerbaijan and those states. India was never among them.

India and Azerbaijan

No objection either way. The MEA apostille is the route for Indian documents going to Azerbaijan.

Other countries

If your agreement also involves a European party, the position between that country and Azerbaijan is a separate question for the HCCH table.

Part 2 · Azerbaijani

Planning the Azerbaijani translation

Azerbaijani offices work in the state language. Your partner will tell you whether the receiving office wants a translation notarised in Azerbaijan or will accept one from India.

  • Translation in Azerbaijan: the apostilled English agreement is translated and, where required, notarised locally
  • Translation from India: INFINITYGRO translates into Azerbaijani, quoted by page, if your partner confirms it will be accepted
  • Bilingual agreement: English and Azerbaijani side by side, signed together and apostilled once

Give us your partner’s registered name and legal form exactly as in Azerbaijani records, so names match in both languages.

Part 4 · In Azerbaijan

What your Azerbaijani partner may use it for

01

Customs and imports

An importer bringing in goods under your brand may need to show it is your authorised representative.

02

Product registration

Regulated products can require proof of a link between the local importer and the foreign maker.

03

Tenders and buyers

State and private buyers may ask for a legalised authorisation before accepting bids for your products.

Ask your partner for the receiving office’s checklist. INFINITYGRO handles the apostille in India; we do not register anything in Azerbaijan or advise on its law.
Part 5 · Supporting papers

Other documents that often go to Baku with it

Sending supporting papers in the same courier lets them pass through the chamber and MEA together.

FAQs

FAQs: Agency Agreement Attestation for Azerbaijan

Is an Indian apostille valid in Azerbaijan?

Yes. Both countries are parties to the Apostille Convention, Azerbaijan since 2 March 2005 and India since 14 July 2005. The HCCH records list objections to Azerbaijan’s accession from some European states, but none from India, so the MEA apostille is accepted.

I read that Azerbaijan’s apostille was not accepted. Is that true?

Only between Azerbaijan and certain European states that objected to its accession, such as Germany until March 2026. That never applied to India. For an agreement signed in India and used in Azerbaijan, the MEA apostille is the right certification.

Does the Embassy of Azerbaijan in New Delhi need to stamp the agreement?

No. Embassy legalisation is for countries outside the Apostille Convention. If your partner’s checklist asks for a consular stamp, send it to us and we will confirm in writing what is needed. Old checklists sometimes still describe the consular route.

Can you translate into Azerbaijani?

Yes. INFINITYGRO translates into Azerbaijani, quoted by page. Check with your partner whether a translation from India is accepted, or whether it must be done and notarised in Azerbaijan, so you only pay for one translation.

Our partner prefers Russian. Is that acceptable?

For your commercial dealings, that is between you and your partner. For a document filed with an Azerbaijani state office, ask your partner which language the office wants. We can translate into Russian or Azerbaijani once you know.

Should both parties sign before the apostille?

It is better. A document that is complete when stamped avoids questions later. If your partner signs in Baku first, they can courier the original to you; once you sign, send it to us with both signatures on it.

What time frame should we plan for Baku?

Our quote states the expected time, which depends on the chamber and the MEA centre. There is no embassy stage for Azerbaijan. Courier time within India and to Baku, and any translation, are additional to that.

Can supporting company documents be apostilled at the same time?

Yes. Documents such as a certificate of registration, board resolution or free sale certificate can go in the same courier. Each follows the route suited to that document, and each is listed separately in the quote.
