Birth Certificate Apostille for Saudi Arabia: Family Visa Papers

Bringing children to Saudi Arabia on a family visa, or enrolling them in school there, usually starts with an attested Indian birth certificate. The old five-office chain ending at the Saudi Embassy is gone: since December 2022 the MEA apostille is enough. We take the certificate through a notary, the SDM and the MEA in Delhi and courier it back.

Quick answer

Birth certificate apostille for Saudi Arabia: quick answer

Birth certificate apostille for Saudi Arabia is the MEA apostille on an Indian birth certificate, accepted by Saudi offices without a Saudi Embassy stamp since the Apostille Convention entered into force for Saudi Arabia on 7 December 2022. Families most often need it to prove a child’s relationship to the parent sponsoring them, or a child’s age for school.

The MEA apostilles a birth certificate once it has been authenticated in India. INFINITYGRO arranges a notary and the SDM in Delhi for certificates from any state, then the MEA apostille. The total is Rs 1,000–1,500 per certificate, covering the notary, SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier is extra, and it usually takes 2–3 working days in Delhi.

Part 1 · Old route and new

What the old Saudi Embassy route looked like

Guides written before 2023 describe a long chain: local attestation, state home department, MEA attestation, and finally the Saudi Embassy in New Delhi, each with its own form and fee. Some also added steps in Saudi Arabia afterwards.

Before December 2022

State or SDM authentication, MEA attestation, then Saudi Embassy legalisation, with an embassy fee and extra days.

Now

Notary and SDM in Delhi, then the MEA apostille. No embassy stage and no embassy fee.

Part 2 · The family file

Papers that usually travel together

A family visa or school admission in Saudi Arabia rarely needs the birth certificate alone. Ask the sponsor’s employer or the school for its full list, then send the papers in one courier.

Each child’s birth certificate

02

Parents’ marriage certificate

Often asked for when a spouse joins. See our marriage certificate apostille guide.

03

School records

Older children may need a school leaving or transfer certificate apostilled for admission.

Part 3 · Names and details

Matching names across certificate and passports

Saudi offices compare the birth certificate with the child’s and parents’ passports. Small differences cause more delays than any stamp.

  • The child’s name should appear on the certificate, not left blank
  • Parents’ names should match their passports, including surnames
  • The date of birth should match the child’s passport
  • Use the registrar’s certificate, not a hospital record
INFINITYGRO does not register births or correct certificates. If a name is missing or wrong, the registrar issues a corrected certificate first; we start once you have it.

FAQs

FAQs: Birth Certificate Apostille for Saudi Arabia: Family Visa Papers

Is Saudi Embassy attestation needed for a birth certificate now?

No. Since 7 December 2022 Saudi Arabia has been a party to the Apostille Convention. An Indian birth certificate with the MEA apostille does not need Saudi Embassy legalisation in New Delhi, and no embassy fee is payable for it.

What does birth certificate apostille for Saudi Arabia cost?

Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per certificate in total, covering the notary, the SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier is extra. Two children means two certificates, each charged separately.

Can a birth certificate from any state be apostilled in Delhi?

Yes. We route certificates from every state through a notary and the SDM in Delhi before the MEA apostille. You do not need to go to your home state’s offices; courier the original to us.

Is a downloaded or online birth certificate accepted?

Often yes, if it carries the registrar’s signature, digital or printed, and a registration number that can be checked. Send a photo first; we tell you whether the notary and SDM are likely to accept it.

My child’s name is missing from the certificate. What should I do?

Ask the registrar to add the name and issue a fresh certificate before you start. Saudi offices match the certificate with the child’s passport, and the apostille cannot be moved to a new certificate later.

How long does it take?

Usually 2 to 3 working days in Delhi once the certificate reaches us, plus courier time from your city and back. If a visa appointment or school deadline is close, tell us when you first contact us.

Can a relative in India send the certificate for us?

Yes. A relative can courier the original to us with copies of the parents’ passports and your WhatsApp number. We return it to any address you give, in India or abroad, by Blue Dart or another secure courier.

Does the certificate need an Arabic translation?

Some Saudi offices and schools ask for Arabic, while others accept English. Ask the one handling your case what it needs. If a translation is needed, INFINITYGRO translates into Arabic, priced by page, and returns it with the apostilled certificate.
