China Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: Chinese Embassy Legalization from India
Chinese Embassy legalization for degree, diploma, birth and marriage certificates, PCC and commercial documents, with the red-sticker notary every document needs.
Quick answer: China joined the Apostille Convention in November 2023, but the Convention does not apply between China and India, so an MEA apostille is not accepted for Indian documents in mainland China. Every document still needs Chinese Embassy legalization: red-sticker notary → state verification or Chamber of Commerce → MEA attestation → Chinese Embassy, New Delhi. For a personal or educational document, the Chinese Embassy fee and the submission charge alone come to about ₹8,500–₹9,000, and the complete all-inclusive cost is about ₹11,500. For a commercial document, the embassy and submission fees alone are about ₹11,000, plus Chamber of Commerce, MEA and service.

Why the MEA apostille does not work for China
China became a party to the Hague Apostille Convention on 7 November 2023, and many people now assume an apostille is enough. It is not, for Indian documents. When India joined the Convention, China objected, and the Convention does not operate between the two countries. Chinese authorities therefore still ask for the traditional chain that ends with the Chinese Embassy's legalization stamp.
What does not work
- MEA apostille alone
- Documents without a notary red sticker
- Laminated or unbound multi-page documents
What China accepts
- Red-sticker notary
- State, SDM or Chamber verification
- MEA attestation
- Chinese Embassy legalization

Chinese embassy attestation in India: Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata
“China embassy attestation” and “Chinese embassy attestation” are the same service: an Indian document legalised by a Chinese diplomatic mission in India so that offices in mainland China will accept it. China's missions in India are the Embassy in New Delhi and the Consulates General in Mumbai and Kolkata. Applications are lodged through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center, not at the embassy gate, and every document must already carry the red-sticker notary and the Ministry of External Affairs attestation.
If your Chinese employer or university asks for State HRD attestation of a degree, we arrange that too for 16 States; see which States, documents and times on our HRD attestation page.
China embassy attestation in Delhi for documents from any city
Our China files are handled from our New Delhi office, where the notary, SDM and MEA stages also happen. That is why a customer in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala, Pune or Ahmedabad does not need a local agent: the documents come to Delhi by courier once and go back once. We do not offer home pickup; send the originals by courier or drop them at our office in New Ashok Nagar. The written quote tells you which mission will legalise your document and the expected return date.
Chinese embassy attestation form and passport copy
The Chinese side asks for an authentication application with the applicant's details, the purpose of the document and a copy of the applicant's passport. You do not need to download or fill anything yourself: we prepare the application from your passport copy and the details you send on WhatsApp, and ask you to check it before the file is lodged.
China embassy attestation charges: what the price covers
People search for both “fees” and “charges”. On this page the fee is what the Chinese Embassy and its service centre take, which is the ₹8,500 to ₹9,000 part for a personal or educational document. The charges are everything around it: the red-sticker notary, the SDM, the MEA attestation and our handling. Together they make the all-inclusive figure of about ₹11,500 per document shown in the fee table. Commercial documents are quoted per file because the Chamber of Commerce stage and the embassy fee differ.
