Agency Agreement Attestation for Bangladesh

Agency agreement attestation for Bangladesh, for Indian companies appointing an agent or distributor in Dhaka, Chattogram or elsewhere in Bangladesh. Since 30 March 2025 Bangladesh is in the Apostille Convention, so an agreement signed in India needs a notary, Chamber of Commerce attestation and the MEA apostille instead of Bangladesh High Commission legalisation.

Quick answer

Agency agreement attestation for Bangladesh: quick answer

Agency agreement attestation for Bangladesh changed in 2025. Bangladesh acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention in July 2024 and it entered into force for Bangladesh on 30 March 2025. Several European states and Argentina objected to the accession, but India did not, so the Convention applies between India and Bangladesh. An agency agreement signed in India is now notarised, attested by a Chamber of Commerce and apostilled by the MEA.

Legalisation by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, the old route, is no longer needed for it. Because the change is recent, confirm with your Bangladeshi partner that the receiving office expects the apostille. INFINITYGRO handles the Indian stages and translates into Bangla; the total is quoted in writing.

Part 1 · What changed

From High Commission legalisation to apostille

Until 29 March 2025

Notary, Chamber of Commerce, MEA attestation, then legalisation by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi or one of its missions in India.

From 30 March 2025

Notary, Chamber of Commerce and the MEA apostille. The apostille is recognised in Bangladesh without a High Commission stamp.

Offices adjust to a new system at different speeds. If your partner’s bank, buyer or ministry still sends a checklist asking for a High Commission stamp, share it with us before anything is couriered, and ask your partner to check whether the office has updated its practice.

Part 2 · Objections

Who objected to Bangladesh joining, and why it does not affect India

Under the Convention, an existing party can object to a new accession within six months; the Convention then does not apply between the two. The HCCH records list objections to Bangladesh’s accession from Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Estonia, Greece, France, Denmark, Argentina and Lithuania.

India is not on that list. For an agreement signed in India and used in Bangladesh, the MEA apostille is the right certification. If the same agreement also has to be used in one of the objecting countries, ask us; that is a separate route.

FAQs

FAQs: Agency Agreement Attestation for Bangladesh

Is the apostille valid between India and Bangladesh?

Yes. The Convention entered into force for Bangladesh on 30 March 2025, and the HCCH records show that India did not object to its accession. An MEA apostille on an agreement signed in India is therefore recognised in Bangladesh.

Do we still need the Bangladesh High Commission stamp?

Not for an agreement going from India to Bangladesh after 30 March 2025. The apostille replaces it. If a Bangladeshi office still asks for a High Commission stamp, send us its checklist and ask your partner to confirm the office’s current practice.

Our agreement was legalised by the High Commission in 2024. Is it still valid?

A legalisation done under the earlier system was the correct route at the time. Whether a Bangladeshi office still accepts an older agreement depends on that office and on the agreement’s own terms. Ask your partner; a new or amended agreement would follow the apostille route.

Why did many European countries object to Bangladesh’s accession?

The HCCH records show the objections but not the reasons. The effect is that the Convention does not apply between Bangladesh and those countries. It does not affect documents between India and Bangladesh, because India did not object.

Can you translate the agreement into Bangla?

Yes. INFINITYGRO translates into Bangla, quoted by page. Check first with your partner whether the Bangladeshi office accepts a translation from India, so you do not pay for two translations. Names of both companies are kept exactly as in their registration records.

Our Bangladeshi distributor needs to send us a signed board resolution. Can you help?

A document signed in Bangladesh and used in India follows a different route. Send a photo first and tell us what the Indian office wants; we confirm whether we can help before you courier anything.

How long will the apostille take?

It depends on the chamber and the MEA centre, so we give an expected time in your written quote. There is no High Commission stage now, which usually shortens the job compared with the old route.

Can the agreement be sent to us from Kolkata or Guwahati?

Yes. Courier the signed original from any city to our New Ashok Nagar office in Delhi. We return it by Blue Dart or another secure courier. Delhi clients can drop it off and collect it in person.
