Bangladesh Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: High Commission Legalisation and MEA Apostille

Bangladesh is India's largest trading partner in South Asia, and most of our Bangladesh work is for exporters of cotton yarn, machinery, medicines and food grains. Since 2025 there is a second, simpler track for personal papers.

Two tracks: Indian commercial documents for Bangladesh are attested by a Chamber of Commerce, then MEA, and finally legalised by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi or its mission in Mumbai. Personal and educational documents (degree, PCC, birth and marriage certificates) have needed only an MEA apostille since Bangladesh's accession took effect on 30 March 2025.

Why Bangladesh uses two different routes

The Apostille Convention expressly excludes administrative documents that deal directly with commercial or customs operations. When Bangladesh joined, personal and academic records moved to the apostille, but invoices, Certificates of Origin and similar trade papers stayed on the traditional consular route. This is why a Kolkata garment-machinery supplier and a Kerala nurse heading to Dhaka follow completely different processes.

Commercial document attestation for Bangladesh

India supplies Bangladesh with raw cotton and yarn for its garment mills, rice, wheat, sugar, onions and spices, petroleum products, vehicles and two-wheelers, iron and steel, machinery and a wide range of pharmaceutical inputs. Much of this trade runs on letters of credit opened by banks in Dhaka and Chattogram, and the documents travel by land through Petrapole-Benapole or by sea.

  • Certificate of Origin, including preferential origin certificates under SAFTA
  • Commercial or export invoice and packing list
  • Bill of lading or truck receipt copies and insurance certificate when the LC requires attestation
  • Health certificate, phytosanitary certificate and fumigation certificate for food and agricultural cargo
  • Certificate of analysis, GMP certificate, COPP and free sale certificate for registration with the Directorate General of Drug Administration
  • Company power of attorney, distribution or agency agreement and letter of authorisation for a Bangladeshi agent
  • Certificate of incorporation, MOA/AOA and board resolution for tenders or for registering a branch with RJSC and BIDA
  • Bank solvency certificates and bid documents for government tenders

  3. MEA attestationThe Ministry of External Affairs attests the Chamber's signature.

A single wrong figure on one document can stop payment under the LC. Send the full shipment set together so everything is legalised consistently.

Degree certificate attestation for Bangladesh

Indian engineers, merchandisers, textile technologists, quality managers and IT professionals are regularly hired by Bangladeshi garment groups, power projects and telecom firms. Work permits are issued through BIDA, or BEPZA for export processing zones, and the employer usually needs the employee's apostilled degree. Students and teachers moving to private universities may also be asked for apostilled marksheets. Relevant documents: degree, diploma, provisional certificate, transcripts, and Class 10 and 12 certificates. Route: notary, state education department or university verification, MEA apostille.

Marriage, birth, PCC and other personal records

An employee taking a spouse and children to Dhaka shows the marriage certificate for the spouse and birth certificates for the children; cross-border marriages between Indian and Bangladeshi citizens also need apostilled papers. Other personal records include the PCC, experience certificates, single status affidavit, divorce decree, death certificate and powers of attorney for land or bank matters. The route is notary, SDM or state Home Department, then MEA apostille. A Passport Seva PCC goes directly to MEA.

Approximate working days: PCC 2–3, civil records 3–6, degrees 7–20, commercial sets 5–8 including the High Commission. For export work, send the original Chamber-ready documents, the LC copy, your IEC and a covering letter on company letterhead. For personal papers, send originals and a passport copy. Bengali translations are rarely required, as Bangladeshi offices and banks routinely accept English.

  • Do not staple or laminate documents meant for the Chamber or MEA.
  • Sign and stamp every page of invoices consistently.
  • Check that the importer's name matches the LC exactly, including 'Ltd' or 'Limited'.

Bangladesh attestation FAQs

Where do Indian export documents for Bangladesh get legalised?

After Chamber of Commerce and MEA attestation, they are legalised at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi or at the Bangladesh mission in Mumbai. We handle both and return the documents to you by courier.

Why does Bangladesh still legalise commercial papers if it joined the Apostille Convention?

The Convention does not cover administrative documents dealing directly with commercial or customs operations. Certificates of Origin, invoices and similar trade documents therefore continue to need High Commission legalisation.

Can my degree be apostilled for Bangladesh?

Yes. Since 30 March 2025 Indian degrees, diplomas and marksheets for Bangladesh need only state verification followed by the MEA apostille. No High Commission stamp is required for them.

What is the Bangladesh High Commission fee per document?

It differs by document type and can change, so we include it in one combined quote with Chamber, MEA and courier charges rather than listing it separately. Share your document list for an exact figure.

How long does commercial document attestation for Bangladesh take?

Usually five to eight working days for a complete shipment set, depending on Chamber and High Commission workload. Plan early if a letter of credit has a tight presentation deadline.

Do I need a Bengali translation?

Rarely. Bangladeshi ministries, banks and companies commonly accept documents in English. Only papers written in an Indian regional language, such as Hindi or Tamil, need translation, usually into English before the apostille.

What does an Indian need for a Bangladesh work permit?

The employer applies through BIDA or BEPZA. Commonly required are the apostilled degree, experience certificates, passport and appointment letter. A PCC may be requested, and it can also be apostilled quickly.

Can marriage certificates for a cross-border marriage be apostilled?

Yes. A marriage registered in India can be notarised, authenticated by the SDM or Home Department and apostilled by MEA for use in Bangladesh, including for spouse visas and family registration.

Is a Certificate of Origin under SAFTA also legalised?

If the Bangladeshi buyer or bank requests it, yes. The certificate is attested by the issuing body or Chamber, then MEA, then the Bangladesh High Commission like other commercial papers.

Do pharmaceutical exporters need extra documents?

Registration with the Directorate General of Drug Administration typically calls for legalised GMP certificates, COPP, free sale certificates and a power of attorney for the local agent. We legalise the full set together.

Can you collect export documents from my factory?

Yes. We arrange pickup from factories and offices anywhere in India, process the Chamber, MEA and High Commission steps, and return the documents or send them directly to your buyer in Bangladesh.
