HSC Certificate Apostille Process in India, Step by Step

Students applying for a bachelor’s degree abroad, and nurses or technicians applying for registration, are often asked for their Class 12 documents with an apostille. This guide walks through the HSC certificate apostille process one step at a time, starting with a question many people skip: which of your 12th documents does the university or council actually need?

Quick answer

Quick answer: the HSC process

HSC certificate apostille process in Delhi runs in three official stages after you send the documents: a notary attests a true copy, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) authenticates the notary, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) fixes the apostille. The stages usually take 2–3 working days together once the originals reach us.

The step people get wrong comes before that: choosing the right documents. Some boards issue a single marks statement that also serves as the certificate; others issue a separate passing certificate. Each paper is a separate document for the apostille. INFINITYGRO charges Rs 1,000–1,500 per document all-inclusive and confirms the list with you before you courier anything.

Step 1 · Choose the documents

Which Class 12 documents to apostille

Marks statement or marksheetAlmost always asked for; shows subjects and marks
Passing certificateAsked for where the board issues one separately
Combined marks statement and certificateOne document that covers both, issued by some boards
Migration certificateSometimes asked for by universities; a separate document
School leaving or transfer certificateOccasionally asked for as proof of schooling or age

Read the receiver’s checklist carefully. If it asks for a 12th certificate and your board issues only a marks statement, that statement is usually what they mean.

Step 2 · Check before sending

Five checks on your HSC documents

  • Your name and your parents’ names match your passport
  • The board’s seal and the controller’s signature are clear
  • The document is not laminated, torn or written on
  • It is the original from the board, not a printout from a results website
  • The year of passing matches across all documents you send
INFINITYGRO does not obtain duplicates, corrections or verification letters from boards. If a document is missing or wrong, get it from your board first.

FAQs

FAQs: HSC Certificate Apostille Process in India, Step by Step

What is the HSC certificate apostille process?

You send the original Class 12 documents. In Delhi, a notary attests a true copy, the SDM authenticates the notary, and the MEA fixes the apostille. This usually takes 2–3 working days, and the documents come back to you by secure courier.

Is the marksheet or the passing certificate apostilled?

Whichever the receiver asks for, and often both. If your board issues one combined marks statement and certificate, that single document is usually enough. Each separate paper is charged as one document, so confirm the list first.

Can a marksheet downloaded from the results website be apostilled?

No. A printout from a results website is not the board’s issued document. Send the original marks statement or certificate issued by the board. If you have lost it, apply to the board for a duplicate first.

Does the board matter, CBSE, ISC or state board?

The Delhi route of notary, SDM and MEA is the same for all boards. What differs is the format of the documents each board issues, which affects what you send. Send a photo first and we confirm the list.

Do I need to be in Delhi?

No. Courier the originals to us and we return them by Blue Dart or another secure courier. If you live in Delhi, you can drop them at our New Ashok Nagar office and collect them there. There is no pickup service.

Is the 12th apostille enough for a university in Dubai?

No. The UAE does not accept the apostille. Class 12 documents for the UAE need MEA attestation, UAE Embassy legalisation and UAE MOFA attestation online, usually in 5–7 working days, with the embassy fee extra.

My name on the 12th certificate differs from my passport. What now?

Only the board can correct the certificate. Some receiving offices accept a sworn affidavit explaining the difference in names. Check with the university or council first; if they accept an affidavit, it can be apostilled too.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually 2–3 working days in Delhi once the originals reach us. Add courier time both ways if you are outside Delhi, normally two to four days each way, so allow about a week or a little more in all.
