- The address is your current one, or the one the receiver expects
- The signature is original ink or a valid printed signature with a seal
- The issue date is recent enough for the receiving country
- The sheet is not laminated, torn, taped or written over
If any detail is wrong, go back to the issuing office before sending. The MEA stamps the signature on the PCC; it does not check or fix what the PCC says, and neither do we.

What is the most common mistake with a Jharkhand PCC?
A name or father’s name that does not match the passport, usually on a police station PCC. The embassy or employer abroad may refuse it even after the apostille. Get the PCC corrected at the issuing office before you send it to Delhi.
Can a laminated PCC be apostilled?
No. The MEA fixes a sticker and stamp on the back of the original, which is not possible on a laminated sheet. If yours is laminated, you will usually need a fresh PCC from the issuing office.
Is a colour photocopy of the PCC enough?
No. The apostille is placed on the original signed certificate. Send the original by tracked courier, together with a photocopy of your passport. Keep your own scan of both sides of the PCC before posting it, in case the courier is delayed.
How do I know which PCC I have?
Look at the signature. A Passport Seva PCC is signed by an officer of the Regional Passport Office and shows your passport number. A police station PCC is signed by a police officer, usually with a station or district seal. Send a photo if unsure.
How much does a Jharkhand PCC apostille cost?

The MEA does not set an age limit for apostille, but the receiving country usually does. Many offices want a PCC issued within the last few months. Ask them before you pay for the apostille on an older PCC.
