Marksheet Attestation for China from the Chinese Embassy
Students heading to China for a bachelor’s programme are usually asked for school results, and postgraduate applicants for their university marks. Indian marksheets can be legalised for China through MEA attestation and the Chinese Embassy. This guide covers 10th, 12th and university marksheets: which ones to send, what to check and how the chain works.

Marksheet attestation for China: quick answer
Marksheet attestation for China is the legalisation of Indian board or university marksheets so that a Chinese university or employer can rely on them. Each marksheet goes through a notary and the SDM in Delhi, then MEA attestation, then legalisation by the Chinese Embassy or a Consulate General. India objected to China’s accession to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille is not accepted.
Every marksheet is a separate document at each stage, so the cost grows with the number you send. Legalise only what the Chinese university or employer lists. Our MEA stage is Rs 1,000–1,500 per marksheet all-inclusive, and the Chinese Embassy fee is extra per document, confirmed in your written quote. Start early if you have an admission or visa deadline.
Which marksheets a Chinese university may ask for
| Bachelor’s admission | Often the 12th marksheet and passing certificate; check whether the 10th is listed |
|---|---|
| Master’s or PhD admission | University marksheets or a consolidated transcript, with the degree |
| Employment | Rarely marksheets; employers normally want the degree or diploma |
Admission lists vary between universities, so use the one you received in writing. The X1 student visa itself is based on the admission letter and the JW201 or JW202 form, so legalised marksheets are for the university, not the visa centre.
Check your marksheets before you courier them
- Originals issued by the board or university, not downloaded copies
- Name and date of birth as in your passport
- Not laminated; a laminated marksheet can cause refusals
- Roll number, seal and signature legible
- Supplementary or improvement results included if they changed your final marks

China embassy attestation feesFAQs: Marksheet Attestation for China from the Chinese Embassy
Do I need to legalise my 10th marksheet for a Chinese university?
Only if the university lists it. Follow its written list, which may name the 12th marksheet only or the 10th as well. Legalising papers that nobody asked for adds cost per document and queue time without helping your application in any way.
Can I apostille my marksheets for China?
No. China joined the Apostille Convention in 2023, but India objected, so the apostille is not used between them. Marksheet attestation for China means MEA attestation followed by legalisation at a Chinese mission in India.
My 12th marksheet is laminated. Can it be attested?
Lamination often causes refusals because stamps cannot be placed or checked properly. Ask your board for a duplicate marksheet and send that. INFINITYGRO cannot obtain duplicates for you, but we will check the duplicate before it goes in.
Is a downloaded DigiLocker marksheet enough?
For legalisation you need the original paper marksheet issued by the board or university. A downloaded copy is not a signed original that the notary, SDM and MEA can work on. Ask the Chinese university whether it accepts digital copies separately.
Does the student visa need attested marksheets?
The visa centre’s list for X1 and X2 student visas names the admission letter, the JW201 or JW202 form and a personal statement. Legalised marksheets are normally for the university’s admission or registration, not the visa application.
What does marksheet attestation for China cost?
Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per marksheet for the MEA stage, covering notary, SDM, the MEA fee and service. The Chinese Embassy fee is extra per document and confirmed in your written quote. Courier both ways is separate.
Can a parent send the marksheets for me?
Yes. A parent can courier the originals with a copy of your passport, or drop them at our New Ashok Nagar office in Delhi. There is no home pickup. We return them by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
Do I need a Chinese translation?
Ask the university. Some Chinese offices want Chinese translations of non-Chinese documents, while others accept English. INFINITYGRO translates into Chinese, quoted by page, if the university wants the translation from India, and returns it with the legalised marksheets.
