Degree Certificate Attestation for Vietnam: The Process Step by Step

Since 11 September 2026, an Indian degree for Vietnam no longer goes to the Vietnam Embassy. Vietnam is now an Apostille Convention country, so the degree is notarised, attested by the SDM and apostilled by the MEA in Delhi. The total is Rs 1,000–1,500 per document, usually 2–3 working days once it reaches us.

Quick answer

Degree for Vietnam: quick answer

Degree certificate attestation for Vietnam used to mean MEA attestation followed by legalisation at the Vietnam Embassy in New Delhi. That changed when the Apostille Convention came into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. From that date the embassy stopped legalising Indian public documents covered by the Convention, and an MEA apostille is accepted in Vietnam without any further stamp.

For a degree, INFINITYGRO arranges the notary and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) attestation in Delhi and then the MEA apostille. The total is Rs 1,000–1,500 per document, covering the notary, the SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. It usually takes 2–3 working days after the degree reaches us; courier is extra. There is no embassy fee on this route.

Part 1 · Attestation or apostille

Why the Vietnam Embassy stamp is no longer needed

Vietnam acceded to the Apostille Convention on 31 December 2025, and the Convention came into force for it on 11 September 2026. The Embassy of Vietnam in India then published a notice saying it would stop accepting consular legalisation of Indian public documents covered by the Convention, and named the MEA as India’s apostille authority.

Before 11 September 2026

Notary → SDM → MEA attestation → Vietnam Embassy legalisation. Degrees legalised this way before that date remain valid in Vietnam.

From 11 September 2026

Notary → SDM → MEA apostille. No embassy visit, no embassy fee.

Many people, and some employers, still call this attestation. What a Vietnamese employer or university can accept now is the MEA apostille.

Quick checks on your degree before it goes in

Should be in order

  • Your name spelt as in your passport
  • University name, seal and signatures clear
  • The final degree, not only a provisional certificate
  • No lamination over the seal or signature

Ask us first if

  • Your name changed after marriage
  • The university has since been renamed
  • You hold only a duplicate degree
  • The degree is in a regional language
INFINITYGRO does not obtain, correct or verify degrees, and we do not get documents from universities. We start once you hold the original degree.
Part 4 · Other papers

Other education papers you may need for Vietnam

Employers and schools in Vietnam sometimes ask for more than the degree. Each of these follows the same apostille route and price per document.

Part 5 · In Vietnam

After the apostille: translation and the work permit file

Vietnamese authorities work in Vietnamese. For a work permit, Decree 219/2025/ND-CP requires legalised foreign documents to be translated into Vietnamese and the translation certified. INFINITYGRO translates into Vietnamese; ask your employer whether they want the translation certified in Vietnam.

FAQs

FAQs: Degree Certificate Attestation for Vietnam: The Process Step by Step

Do I still need Vietnam Embassy attestation for my degree?

No, not for degrees apostilled from 11 September 2026. The Vietnam Embassy in India stopped legalising Indian public documents covered by the Apostille Convention from that date. An MEA apostille on your degree is accepted in Vietnam without a further embassy stamp.

How much does degree attestation for Vietnam cost now?

Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document in total. That covers the notary, the SDM attestation, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. There is no embassy fee on the apostille route. Courier is extra, and translation is quoted by language and page.

How long does it take?

Usually 2 to 3 working days in Delhi once the degree reaches us, for the notary, SDM and MEA stages together. Add the courier time from your city to Delhi and back, normally a few days each way, and plan around your joining date.

My degree was legalised by the Vietnam Embassy last year. Is it still valid?

Yes. The embassy’s notice says documents legalised through consular channels before 11 September 2026 remain valid for use in Vietnam. Check with your employer that they do not want a fresh copy for another reason.

Can I send a provisional certificate instead of the degree?

A provisional certificate can be apostilled too, but a Vietnamese employer or work permit office may want the final degree. Ask them which they accept before you send it, and send the final degree if you have it.

Do I need to visit Delhi?

No. Courier the original degree to our New Ashok Nagar office, or drop it off if you are in Delhi. We return it by Blue Dart or another secure courier. We do not offer home pickup.

Will a school or university in Vietnam accept the apostille?

The apostille replaces embassy legalisation for Indian public documents covered by the Convention, so Vietnamese bodies should accept it. Each employer or institution sets its own checklist, though, so check whether they also want marksheets, a transcript or a translation.

Does the degree need a Vietnamese translation?

For a work permit, Vietnamese rules require legalised foreign documents to be translated into Vietnamese and the translation certified. INFINITYGRO translates into Vietnamese. Ask your employer whether they want the translation certified in Vietnam or prepared before you travel.
