Aadhar Card Copy Apostille from MEA
Aadhar card apostille for an address proof, a KYC check or a residence file abroad. The apostille is placed on a notarised true copy of your Aadhar card, attested by the SDM in Delhi and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs. Your card or e-Aadhaar stays with you; courier from any state.

Aadhar card apostille: quick answer
Aadhar card apostille is done on a certified copy, because the MEA does not legalise plain photocopies and a sticker cannot go on a PVC card. A notary certifies a true copy of your Aadhaar (often spelt Aadhar), the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Delhi attests the notary, and the MEA adds the apostille. Foreign offices mostly use it as proof of your address in India.
INFINITYGRO handles all three stages for Rs 1,000–1,500 per copy, all-inclusive, in about 2–3 working days in Delhi; courier is extra. Keep in mind that Aadhaar is proof of identity and address, not of citizenship. If the office abroad wants proof of nationality, send your passport copy for apostille as well.
What an apostilled Aadhar card can and cannot prove
Section 9 of the Aadhaar Act says an Aadhaar number is not, by itself, proof of citizenship or domicile. The apostille confirms that the copy was certified through Indian authorities. It does not add anything to what the card itself proves.
Commonly accepted for
- Proof of residential address in India
- A second identity document next to the passport
- KYC for a bank, broker or payment account abroad
- Address history in residence or family files
Not a substitute for
- Your passport, as proof of nationality
- A birth certificate, as proof of date of birth
- A police clearance certificate
- A marriage certificate, for spouse details
Which version to send for Aadhar card apostille
UIDAI issues the same details in several formats. The notary has to compare the copy with something he can treat as the original, so the format matters.
Aadhaar letter
The paper letter delivered by post works well. Send the full letter, not only the cut-out card portion.
PVC card
The plastic card ordered from UIDAI can be copied and certified. Make sure the printed text is not worn.
e-Aadhaar printout
A downloaded e-Aadhaar printed on paper may be questioned by the notary. Send us a photo first and we will confirm.

Identity documents usually apostilled together
Foreign banks and registries often ask for two or three identity papers at once. Sending them with your Aadhar card apostille saves a second courier and a second MEA submission.

FAQs: Aadhar Card Copy Apostille from MEA
Can the original Aadhar card be apostilled?
No. The apostille goes on a notarised true copy that the SDM has attested. A PVC card cannot carry a sticker, and the MEA does not legalise a plain photocopy. Your original card or letter is returned to you as it was.
What does an Aadhar card apostille cost?
Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per certified copy, all-inclusive. The amount covers the notary, the SDM attestation, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier is charged separately, and translation, if needed, is quoted by language.
How many days does it take?
About 2 to 3 working days in Delhi once the Aadhaar reaches us. Courier from another state adds a few days each way. If you are in Delhi, you can drop it at our office and collect it.
Will a foreign office accept Aadhaar as proof of citizenship?
It should not be used for that. Under Section 9 of the Aadhaar Act, an Aadhaar number does not prove citizenship or domicile. Use your passport for nationality and send the Aadhaar as address or identity proof.
Can I use a downloaded e-Aadhaar?
Sometimes. Some notaries hesitate to certify a printout because there is no physical original to compare. The Aadhaar letter received by post or the PVC card is safer. Send us a photo of what you have and we will confirm.
My address on Aadhaar is old. Will the apostille update it?
No. The apostille only confirms the certified copy; it does not change any detail. Update your address with UIDAI first, wait for the updated Aadhaar to reach you, and then send it to us for the Aadhar card apostille so the copy shows your current address.
Is a masked Aadhaar acceptable?
A masked Aadhaar hides most of the number. Some foreign banks accept it and others want the full number. Check the receiver’s checklist. The notary and MEA steps are the same for either version.
Do I need an apostille for the UAE?
No. The UAE does not accept the apostille. An Aadhaar copy for the UAE needs MEA attestation and then UAE Embassy legalisation in New Delhi, followed by UAE MOFA attestation online, which we also handle.
