Certificate of Origin Attestation from Oman Embassy
Your buyer or bank in Oman wants the certificate of origin legalised before the goods clear. Oman keeps customs and commercial papers outside the apostille system, so the certificate goes from the chamber to the MEA and then to the Oman Embassy in New Delhi. We run that chain and courier the certificate back so it reaches your buyer in time.

Certificate of origin for Oman: quick answer
Certificate of origin attestation from Oman Embassy is the legalisation of the certificate that states where your goods were made, so that Omani customs, a bank handling your letter of credit or the buyer accepts it as genuine. Oman told the Hague Conference in 2021 that the Apostille Convention does not cover customs or commercial documents, so the MEA apostille is not an option here.
The certificate is attested by a recognised Chamber of Commerce, then by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and finally by the Embassy of Oman in New Delhi. INFINITYGRO handles the chain from Delhi. Charges depend on the chamber and the embassy, so we quote each shipment set in writing; the embassy fee is extra and shown in that quote.
Preferential or non-preferential: know which one you hold
Before anything is attested, be clear which certificate your buyer wants. The two are issued differently and serve different purposes at Omani customs.
Preferential (CEPA)
Used to claim lower duty under the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, in force since 1 June 2026. It is issued electronically on the DGFT’s Trade Connect ePlatform. Ask your buyer whether this electronic certificate needs any legalisation at all before sending it to us.
Non-preferential
A general statement of origin, usually issued and signed by a Chamber of Commerce. This is the certificate Omani buyers and banks most often ask us to legalise through the MEA and the Oman Embassy.
Where a legalised certificate of origin is needed in Oman
Customs clearance
The Omani importer may need the legalised certificate to clear goods and apply the correct duty.
Letter of credit
Banks often list a legalised certificate of origin among the papers they check before releasing payment.
Tenders and product registration
Government buyers and regulators sometimes ask for origin proof that has been legalised by the embassy.
Read the letter of credit or purchase order carefully. If it asks for legalisation by the Embassy of Oman, an apostille or a plain chamber stamp will be rejected by the bank, and only certificate of origin attestation from Oman Embassy will satisfy it.

Details that must agree across your export papers
Embassies and banks compare the certificate with the invoice that goes with it. Small differences cause returns and missed payment dates.
Match these exactly
- Exporter name and address
- Consignee name and Omani address
- Invoice number and date quoted on the certificate
- Description of goods and quantities
- Country of origin stated clearly
Common mistakes
- Consignee spelt differently on certificate and invoice
- Certificate signed but not stamped by the chamber
- Corrections or overwriting on the certificate
- A photocopy sent instead of the original
- Invoice not legalised when the bank asks for both
Most buyers want the invoice legalised along with the certificate. See our commercial invoice guide for Oman and send both together.
Plan the legalisation around your shipment
The goods may reach Oman before the papers do. Start the legalisation as soon as the chamber issues the certificate, and tell us the vessel or flight date so we can give you a realistic estimate with the quote.
- Send all papers for one shipment in a single courier
- Keep scans of every page before you courier the originals
- Ask your buyer how many legalised sets they need
- If several shipments run together, label each set clearly
Other papers for the same buyer, such as an agency agreement or company registration papers, can move in the same batch. See the Oman commercial documents guide.

FAQs: Certificate of Origin Attestation from Oman Embassy
Can a certificate of origin for Oman be apostilled instead?
No. Oman declared in 2021 that it does not apply the Apostille Convention to commercial and customs documents. A certificate of origin for Oman therefore needs Chamber of Commerce attestation, MEA attestation and legalisation by the Embassy of Oman in New Delhi.
Do you issue the certificate of origin?
No. Certificates of origin are issued by a Chamber of Commerce or, for preferential claims, through the DGFT’s Trade Connect ePlatform. INFINITYGRO only arranges the attestation and embassy legalisation of a certificate you already hold.
Does a CEPA certificate of origin need embassy legalisation?
That depends on what your buyer, bank or Omani customs ask for. Preferential certificates under the India–Oman CEPA have been issued electronically since 1 June 2026. Ask the buyer before sending it to us, and share their exact wording so we can advise.
Should the invoice be legalised along with the certificate?
Usually yes. Omani buyers and banks often ask for the commercial invoice and certificate of origin together, and the details on both must agree. Sending them in one courier saves time and keeps the set consistent.
How long does certificate of origin legalisation take?
It depends on the chamber, the MEA and the Oman Embassy queue, so we do not publish a fixed figure. Tell us your shipment date when you share the scans, and we give an estimate with the written quote. Add courier time to Delhi and back.
Can you legalise a certificate issued by a chamber in another state?
Yes. The chamber can be in any state, as long as it is a recognised chamber whose signature the MEA accepts. Send a scan first so we can check the signature and seal before you courier the original.
What if the consignee name on the certificate is wrong?
Get a corrected certificate from the issuing chamber before legalisation starts. Once the MEA and embassy stamps are on it, a corrected version means starting the whole chain again. INFINITYGRO cannot change the content of a certificate.
Can I visit the Oman Embassy myself with the certificate?
You do not need to. INFINITYGRO submits and collects the papers in New Delhi. Delhi exporters can drop the originals at our office; others courier them in, and we send them back by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
