apostille
An apostille for Mexico is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document after it has been verified by the competent Indian authority – the state education department for degrees and transcripts, the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, a chamber of commerce for company papers. Mexican immigration offices, the civil registry, universities and notaries accept it without legalisation by the Embassy of Mexico. A Spanish translation is almost always needed.
Mexico embassy attestation is not needed – the apostille for Mexico is
Mexico and India are both parties to the Apostille Convention, so the Embassy of Mexico in New Delhi does not legalise Indian public documents that carry the MEA apostille. Any Mexican office that asks for an authenticated Indian document is asking for the apostille.
The step that usually decides timing is the Spanish translation. Many Mexican authorities want it done by a perito traductor – a translator certified by a Mexican court – and translated from the apostilled original. Plan the apostille for Mexico first, then the translation, and keep both together in your file.
