Apostille for Netherlands

The Netherlands has been part of the Hague Apostille Convention since 8 October 1965, so Indian public documents need the MEA apostille and no Dutch Embassy legalisation. apostille
An apostille for the Netherlands is the MEA apostille added to an Indian public document after it has been verified by the right Indian authority – the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, the state education department for degrees. The IND, Dutch municipalities (gemeente) and universities accept it without legalisation by the Embassy of the Netherlands. Documents in English are often accepted as they are; other languages need a sworn Dutch or English translation.
Netherlands embassy attestation is not needed – the apostille for the Netherlands is
If an agent quotes you for “Netherlands embassy attestation”, ask why. India and the Netherlands are both parties to the Apostille Convention, so the IND and Dutch municipalities look for the MEA apostille, not a stamp from the Dutch Embassy in New Delhi.
What still decides success is the Indian side: a birth certificate issued by the correct registrar, names that match your passport, and – for degrees – verification by the state that issued them. These points are checked by us before the apostille for the Netherlands is applied, not after a Dutch office has rejected the file.

Do you need a translation for the Netherlands?
Often not. Many Dutch offices, including municipalities, accept documents issued in English, and most Indian birth, marriage and degree certificates are in English. A translation becomes necessary when the certificate – or part of it – is in Hindi or another Indian language; then it is usually done by a sworn translator (beëdigd vertaler) into Dutch or English, after the apostille.
We look at every document and tell you which ones need translating, so you do not pay for translations nobody will ask for. For Dutch, see our Dutch translation services.
SampleApostille for Netherlands sample – what the IND and gemeente see

This sample shows a complete chain on an Indian degree: notary at the top, SDM in the middle and the Ministry of External Affairs apostille sticker below. The sticker follows the standard apostille model used in every Hague country, so an IND officer in the Netherlands reads it exactly as one in India would – and can scan the QR code to confirm it was issued by the MEA. Personal data is masked.
