apostille
An apostille for Japan is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document, added after the document is verified in India – by the state education department for degrees, the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, or a chamber of commerce for company papers. Japanese ward and city offices, Legal Affairs Bureaus, courts and universities accept it without Japanese Embassy legalisation. A Japanese translation is usually attached.
Japan embassy attestation is not needed – the apostille for Japan is
Japan and India are both parties to the Apostille Convention, so the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi does not legalise Indian public documents that carry the MEA apostille. When a Japanese office wants proof that an Indian certificate is genuine, the apostille for Japan is what it expects.
One honest point: not every Japanese application needs an apostille. Many work visas based on a Certificate of Eligibility are processed on plain copies of your degree. The apostille is typically asked for in marriage and family registration, company and real-estate registration, court matters and by some universities. Send us the checklist and we will tell you which case you are in.

Japanese translation for the apostille for Japan
Japan does not have a sworn-translator system like many European countries. Japanese offices generally accept a Japanese translation that states who translated it, with the translator’s name and contact details – so the translation must be accurate and complete, including the apostille sticker. Some offices also accept documents in English; ask before you pay for a translation.
We translate from the apostilled original, with names in the same order and spelling as your passport. See our Japanese translation services.
SampleApostille for Japan sample – how the MEA sticker reads

A Japanese office reading this apostille for Japan looks at three things: the country of issue (Republic of India), the officer and authority whose signature is certified, and the certificate number and date, which can be checked through the QR code. Because the sticker is bilingual (Hindi and English) with the French Convention title, a Japanese translation of the sticker is usually attached along with the document. Personal details are masked.
