Apostille for Uzbekistan

Off to a medical institute in Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara or Andijan? Uzbekistan has become a popular MBBS destination, and universities there ask for authenticated Indian school documents. Uzbekistan joined the Hague Apostille Convention with effect from 15 April 2012; India did not object, so the MEA apostille is the authentication Uzbek institutions accept. INFINITYGRO prepares the apostille for Uzbekistan in Delhi.

Quick answer

To get an apostille for Uzbekistan, the 12th certificate is verified by the issuing board or state education department, the birth certificate by the home department or SDM, and the Ministry of External Affairs then adds its apostille. Uzbek medical institutes and state offices accept these documents; a notarised Uzbek or Russian translation is normally made in Uzbekistan.

Who objected – and who did not

Uzbekistan embassy attestation is not needed for India – the apostille for Uzbekistan works

When Uzbekistan joined the Convention, a few countries – Germany, Austria and Greece among them – objected, so the apostille does not operate between Uzbekistan and those states. India was not one of them. Between India and Uzbekistan the Convention applies, which is why the Uzbek Embassy does not legalise apostilled Indian documents.

This matters if you have read conflicting advice online: for Indian students and companies, the MEA apostille is the right and complete step.

The apostille for Uzbekistan is the same MEA sticker used for every Convention country: it certifies the Indian officer’s signature and seal below it, gives a date and unique number, and carries a QR code an Uzbek official can scan. On marksheets, the board’s verification stamp sits above it. Identifying details are blurred.
