apostille
An apostille for Ireland is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document after the document is verified by the competent Indian authority – the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, the state education department for degrees, a notary and SDM for affidavits. Irish registrars, the immigration service, universities and courts accept it without legalisation by the Embassy of Ireland. Documents in English need no translation.
Ireland embassy attestation is not needed – the apostille for Ireland is
Ireland and India are both parties to the Apostille Convention. That means an Irish office relies on the MEA apostille and its QR code; the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi does not legalise Indian public documents on top of it.
Where Ireland files go wrong is on the Indian side: a birth certificate registered under a different spelling, a missing parent’s name, or a single-status affidavit sworn in the wrong format. We check these points before the apostille for Ireland is applied, so the civil registrar does not send you back to India.

Translation and the apostille for Ireland
English is an official language of Ireland, so Indian certificates issued in English are used as they are – no translation needed. A translation is only required when the certificate, or a stamp on it, is in Hindi or another Indian language; it is added after the apostille, with the translator’s details.
We check each page and translate only what an Irish office will actually ask for. See our marriage certificate translation and birth certificate translation.
