An apostille for Czech Republic is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document after verification by the competent Indian authority – the state education department for degrees, the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, a chamber of commerce for company papers. The Czech Ministry of the Interior, registry offices and universities accept it without Czech Embassy legalisation. Most offices then need an official Czech translation by a court-appointed translator.

India and the Czech Republic are both members of the Apostille Convention, and the Czech side did not object to India’s accession. The Czech Embassy in New Delhi therefore does not legalise Indian public documents; Czech offices accept the MEA apostille.
The Czech step that most often delays files is translation. Czech authorities generally require an official translation into Czech by a court-registered translator (soudní překladatel), stitched to the document with a translator’s clause.
