Apostille for Portugal
Applying for a Portuguese D7, job-seeker or digital-nomad visa, joining family in Lisbon, or claiming Portuguese nationality through Goan, Daman or Diu roots? Portugal has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since 4 February 1969, so Indian public documents need the MEA apostille – not legalisation by the Embassy of Portugal. INFINITYGRO completes the apostille for Portugal in Delhi and helps with the certified Portuguese translation your file will need.

apostille
An apostille for Portugal is the MEA apostille on an Indian public document, added once the document has been verified in India – by the state education department for degrees, the home department or SDM for birth and marriage certificates, or a chamber of commerce for company papers. Portuguese consulates, AIMA, universities and the civil registry accept it without Portuguese Embassy legalisation. Most Portuguese offices then need a certified translation into Portuguese.
Portugal embassy attestation is not needed – get the apostille for Portugal
The visa checklists issued for Portugal ask for documents “apostilled or legalised”. For India the answer is the apostille: both countries are parties to the 1961 Convention, so the Embassy of Portugal in New Delhi does not legalise Indian public documents on top of the MEA apostille.
The police clearance is the document most Portugal applicants get wrong. A Passport Seva PCC can go straight to the MEA for the apostille for Portugal, while a state police certificate needs home department attestation first. Check which one your checklist names before you apply for it.

Certified Portuguese translation for Portugal
Portuguese authorities generally want foreign documents translated into Portuguese, and the translation is expected to be certified – for example by a Portuguese notary, lawyer or consulate – not just signed by any translator. The apostille comes first, and the translation must include the apostille sticker.
We prepare the Portuguese translation from the apostilled document and keep names, dates and registration numbers identical to your passport. See our Portuguese translation services.
SampleApostille for Portugal sample – the MEA sticker explained

In this sample the MEA sticker sits below the notary and SDM stamps. For a Passport Seva PCC the chain is shorter – the apostille for Portugal goes directly on the PCC – but the sticker looks the same: country, signing officer, place and date, certificate number, seal and the QR code that the Portuguese consulate or AIMA can scan. Personal details are hidden.
