Brazil Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: Apostille and Sworn Translation Guide

São Paulo's IT parks, Indian pharma subsidiaries and Brazilian universities all ask for the same evidence: Indian papers bearing an apostille, later rendered into Portuguese.

In one paragraph: Brazil has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since August 2016, so the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi and the consulate in Mumbai no longer legalise Indian documents. After state or Chamber verification, the MEA apostille is the final Indian step. In Brazil a tradutor juramentado then prepares the sworn Portuguese translation.

Why Brazilian authorities want apostilled Indian documents

Indians moving to Brazil usually fall into one of a few groups, and each group has a predictable document set.

Professionals on work authorisation

Technology firms such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech run large Brazilian operations, and Indian pharmaceutical and automotive companies have subsidiaries there. A residence authorisation for work is typically supported by the employee's apostilled degree, proof of experience and a police clearance. The degree shows the specialised skill the post demands; the PCC shows the absence of a criminal record.

Families following a worker

Spouses obtain residence through family reunion with an apostilled marriage certificate, and each child needs an apostilled birth certificate. After arrival, each family member registers with the Polícia Federal and receives the RNM identity card, and that registration again calls for the sworn translations.

Students and doctors

Postgraduate applicants and anyone seeking to have an Indian degree revalidated at a Brazilian public university need apostilled degrees and transcripts. Doctors who want to practise also face Brazil's Revalida examination, and engineers register with their regional CREA council.

Marriage certificate attestation for Brazil and personal records

Civil documents are pre-authenticated by the Home Department of the issuing state, or by an SDM in Delhi, before the apostille. Brazilian cartórios (registry offices) and the Federal Police examine these closely, particularly the spelling of names and the parents' details.

  • Marriage certificate: for a spouse's residence or to register an Indian marriage at a Brazilian cartório
  • Birth certificate: for each child and sometimes for the main applicant
  • Police Clearance Certificate: issued by Passport Seva, sent directly for apostille
  • Single status affidavit: for Indians marrying in Brazil
  • Experience certificate: supporting work authorisation
  • Divorce decree, death certificate and medical certificate where relevant

Commercial document attestation for Brazil

India and Brazil are BRICS partners with significant two-way trade. Indian exports to Brazil include pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, organic chemicals, auto components, diesel and textiles. Pharmaceutical registration with ANVISA is especially document-heavy. Typical company papers we apostille:

  • GMP certificate, COPP and free sale certificate for ANVISA dossiers
  • Certificate of incorporation, MOA and AOA for a Brazilian subsidiary
  • Board resolution and company power of attorney for a Brazilian procurador
  • Certificate of Origin and commercial invoice
  • Distribution and technology licensing agreements
  • Bank and financial statements for capital registration

The sequence is Chamber of Commerce endorsement followed by the MEA apostille. A notary step is added first for documents signed by a director, such as a power of attorney.

Brazil FAQs

Does the Brazilian Embassy in India attest documents?

Not for Indian public documents. Since Brazil joined the Apostille Convention in August 2016, the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi and consulate in Mumbai no longer legalise them; the MEA apostille is the accepted authentication.

What are the Brazil embassy attestation fees?

There is no embassy fee. Our all-inclusive charges are ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for a PCC, from ₹1,500 for a birth certificate and ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 for a marriage certificate. Degrees and company papers are quoted separately.

How long does degree certificate attestation for Brazil take?

Usually one to three weeks, depending on the state that verifies the degree. Transcripts and syllabus are processed in the same round. Sworn translation in Brazil adds a few more days.

What is a tradutor juramentado?

A sworn public translator registered with a Brazilian state commercial board. Brazilian authorities accept translations of foreign documents only from such translators, and they translate the apostille along with the document.

Is marriage certificate attestation for Brazil needed for family residence?

Yes. A spouse applying for residence through family reunion submits an apostilled marriage certificate with a sworn Portuguese translation. It is verified by the Home Department or SDM before MEA.

Which documents do I need to revalidate an Indian degree in Brazil?

Brazilian public universities usually ask for the apostilled degree, apostilled transcripts and the course syllabus, all with sworn translations. Doctors must also clear the Revalida exam before practising.

Which commercial documents need apostille for Brazil?

Commonly GMP certificates, COPPs, free sale certificates, incorporation papers, board resolutions, company powers of attorney, Certificates of Origin and agreements. Each is endorsed by a Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by MEA.

Can I use an apostilled PCC for the Brazilian Federal Police?

Yes. A Passport Seva police clearance with MEA apostille and a sworn translation is the standard way to show your Indian criminal record status for Brazilian residence and work authorisation.

Should translation be done in India or Brazil?

In Brazil. Translations by Indian translators are generally not accepted for official purposes. Get the apostille in India first, then have a tradutor juramentado translate the document and the sticker.

Can a power of attorney signed in India be used in Brazil?

Yes. It is notarised, authenticated and apostilled by MEA, then translated by a sworn translator. Brazilian cartórios and companies accept it to appoint a procurador acting for you.

Do children's birth certificates need apostille for Brazilian schools?

Usually yes. Schools and the Polícia Federal ask for apostilled birth certificates with sworn translations when registering children, along with previous school records if they are transferring.
